Object-based attention: strategy versus automaticity.
نویسنده
چکیده
This article begins with a description of space- and object-based guidance of attentional selection. It goes on to discuss the most influential, two-rectangle, paradigm for demonstrating the existence of space- and object-based attentional effects. The article then considers two different mechanisms, attentional spreading and attentional prioritization, that can potentially explain how object representations come to guide attentional selection. Finally, it discusses several empirical findings that have emerged in support of the two different mechanisms. It concludes by putting forth a new framework for investigating object-based effects. Automaticity in rule-based and information-integration categorization.
Three experiments studied the effects of category structure on the development of categorization automaticity. In Experiment 1, participants were each trained for over 10,000 trials in a simple categorization task with one of three category structures. Results showed that after the first few sessions, there were no significant behavioral differences between participants who learned rule-based v...
متن کاملAutomaticity of walking: functional significance, mechanisms, measurement and rehabilitation strategies
Automaticity is a hallmark feature of walking in adults who are healthy and well-functioning. In the context of walking, "automaticity" refers to the ability of the nervous system to successfully control typical steady state walking with minimal use of attention-demanding executive control resources. Converging lines of evidence indicate that walking deficits and disorders are characterized in ...
متن کاملApproach to Automaticity Principles of Information Processing Basic Aspects of Automaticity the Stroop Model
We consider how a particular set of information processing principles, developed within the parallel distributed processing (PDP) framework, can address issues concerning automaticity. These principles include graded, activation-based processing that is subject to attentional modulation; incremental, connection-based learning; and interactivity and competition in processing. We show how simulat...
متن کاملFuturology of Multi-Criteria Decision Making Techniques Using Philosophical Assumptions of Paradigms in Scenario Writing
There are many opportunities and threats in the decision-making environment for managers, and an organization must use research and information systems to change, monitor, and anticipate this environment. Futurism reflects how tomorrow reality gives birth to tomorrow's reality is. The purpose of this research; Analyzing the role of futures studies in the existing patterns of critical factors of...
متن کاملEffects of divided attention on episodic memory in chronic traumatic brain injury: a function of severity and strategy.
Eleven patients with mild traumatic brain injury (MTBI) and 13 patients with moderate-to-severe TBI (STBI) were compared to 10 matched controls on episodic memory for pictorial scene-object associations (e.g. kitchen-bread) and a range of standardized neuropsychological tests of memory and frontal-lobe functions. We tested the hypothesis that deficits in episodic memory result from impaired att...
